‘encounters' is an art and curatorial project by Caroline Kha exploring contemplative acts, interactions and meeting points between daily life and contemporary art practice.
Shop 71-73 High St was a former Santander Building Society. The office has been stripped bare of its shop fittings. Residual marks on walls from old posters, sections of carpet cut outs of where customer service counter tops and ATM once existed- are the only traces of the space’s former life.
These now provide an almost contrary environment for contemporary artworks to be recontextualised and experienced by local visitors. Aesthetics and utility start to come into question. Engagement of the senses, introspection and creating spaces for sustained viewing are the main ideas explored in this project.
OPEN DAY: 22nd February 2014

Anne Harild’s animation from St. Mary’s Hospital residency takes a deeper look at immaterial qualities of light highlighting, alternating and shifting our perception of space, structures and form.
Artists have been invited to explore contemplative acts and respond to the space through creating site specific and socially interactive works in office cubicles and reception areas.
Pop-up space has been kindly provided by Moderna Art.
